Nintendo?s decision to price the Wii U at $300 (and $350 for a version with more storage) raised some alarm bells among price-conscious consumers, who noted that the Wii debuted at just $250 in 2006.
That made us wonder which console was the best bargain ? and which was the worst bargain ? in all of video game history at the time of launch. Fortunately for us, the folks at Statista like doing math. They calculated the launch prices for video game consoles throughout history, and then they adjusted the price for 2012 dollars based on inflation rates. And here are the results. The Neo Geo turns out to be the most ridiculously priced system at the time of its launch, coming out in 1990 at $650, which is $1,146 in today?s dollars. 3DO, which debuted in 1993, was close behind at the outlandish $699 price, or $1,114 in today?s dollars. The cheapest console was the Nintendo GameCube, priced at $199 (or $259 in today?s dollars) back in 2001.
Sure, we know that adding bigger storage and more accessories will make some of these systems priced below more expensive, but we?re measuring the base system cost.
By comparison, the Nintendo Wii U is coming out at $300 on Nov. 18. That price will make it the fifth most-reasonably priced console in video game history. Here?s a link to Statista?s research on game consoles.

If I had a million dollars, I?d pack a bag and head off to the airport to acquire a ticket to the most remote island off the coast of Greece. I?d ask the travel agent which islands were undergoing civil war, or had State Department advisories. Whichever place she?d mention in hushed tones would be my destination.
I?d take up fishing in a fishing village, gain the natives? trust, drink Ouzo in the scorching summer heat, stalk octopi in the dark sapphire seas, and give charitably to anyone in need,. At night I?d involve myself in whatever conceivable intrigue the Mediterranean offered. I?d want to live dangerously.
When I was sure that the minerals of the jagged coast had penetrated my bloodstream ? I would buy a farm on the rockiest, most ungovernable soil. Then i would stock the farmhouse with books on Greek philosophy and poetry and spend my nights basking in the afterglow of a campfire surrounded by the dying scents of roasted goat and feta cheese ? singing Ionian hymns to pagan gods.
I would guide my sheep across the rugged country, muttering commands in Greek, aided by an old sheepdog. I would find startling mountains to rest by. I would also farm olives, haggle with the village women, and hunt wild boar with the men. At night, when I was alone and all the animals were asleep, I?d sit under the dazzling stars and break out a book on ancient Greek geometry, put a good tape in the stereo next to me, and read. I would marry a young village woman to share this stark and simple beauty. Once my money was exhausted, I would remain a shepherd-farmer-philosopher on my remote island forever.

NEW YORK (AP) ? So long, replacement refs. The NFL's regular crews will be back on the field starting Thursday night.
After two days of marathon negotiations ? and mounting frustration among coaches, players and fans ? the NFL and the referees' union announced at midnight Thursday that a tentative agreement had been reached to end a lockout that began in June.
Commissioner Roger Goodell, who was at the bargaining table Tuesday and Wednesday, said the regular officials would work the Browns-Ravens game at Baltimore.
The tentative eight-year deal must be ratified by 51 percent of the union's 121 members. They plan to vote Friday and Saturday in Dallas.
"Welcome back REFS," Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller tweeted shortly after the news broke.
The replacements worked the first three weeks of games, triggering a wave of outrage that threatened to disrupt the rest of the season. After a missed call cost the Green Bay Packers a win on a chaotic final play at Seattle on Monday night, the two sides really got serious.
"We are glad to be getting back on the field for this week's games," referees' union president Scott Green said.
The agreement hinged on working out pension and retirement benefits for the officials, who are part-time employees of the league. The tentative pact calls for their salaries to increase from an average of $149,000 a year in 2011 to $173,000 in 2013, rising to $205,000 by 2019.
Under the proposed deal, the current defined benefit pension plan will remain in place for current officials through the 2016 season or until the official earns 20 years' service. The defined benefit plan will then be frozen.
Retirement benefits will be provided for new hires, and for all officials beginning in 2017, through a defined contribution arrangement. The annual league contribution made on behalf of each game official will begin with an average of more than $18,000 per official and increase to more than $23,000 per official in 2019.
Beginning with the 2013 season, the NFL will have the option to hire a number of officials on a full-time basis to work year round, including on the field. The NFL also will be able to retain additional officials for training and development, and can assign those officials to work games. The number of additional officials will be determined by the league.
"As you know, this has to be ratified and we know very little about it, but we're excited to be back. And ready," referee Ed Hochuli told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. " And I think that's the most important message ? that we're ready."
Replacement refs aren't new to the NFL. They worked the first week of games in 2001 before a deal was reached. But those officials came from the highest level of college football; the current replacements do not. Their ability to call fast-moving NFL games drew mounting criticism through Week 3, climaxing last weekend, when ESPN analyst Jon Gruden called their work "tragic and comical."
Those comments came during "Monday Night Football," with Seattle beating Green Bay 14-12 on a desperation pass into the end zone on the final play. Packers safety M.D. Jennings had both hands on the ball in the end zone, and when he fell to the ground in a scrum, both Jennings and Seahawks receiver Golden Tate had their arms on the ball.
The closest official to the play, at the back of the end zone, signaled for the clock to stop, while another official at the sideline ran in and then signaled touchdown.
The NFL said in a statement Tuesday that the touchdown pass should not have been overturned ? but acknowledged Tate should have been called for offensive pass interference before the catch. The league also said there was no indisputable evidence to reverse the call made on the field.
That drew even louder howls of disbelief. Some coaches, including Miami's Joe Philbin and Cincinnati's Marvin Lewis, tried to restore some calm by instructing players not to speak publicly on the issue.
Fines against two coaches for incidents involving the replacements were handed out Wednesday.
Patriots coach Bill Belichick was docked $50,000 for trying to grab an official's arm Sunday to ask for an explanation of a call after his team lost at Baltimore. And Washington offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan was tagged for $25,000 for what the league called "abuse of officials" in the Redskins' loss to Cincinnati on Sunday. Two other coaches, Denver's John Fox and assistant Jack Del Rio, were fined Monday for incidents involving the replacements the previous week.
"I accept the discipline and I apologize for the incident," Belichick said.
Players were in no mood for apologies from anyone.
"I'll probably get in trouble for this, but you have to have competent people," Carolina receiver Steve Smith said. "And if you're incompetent, get them out of there."
Added Rams quarterback Sam Bradford: "I just don't think it's fair to the fans, I don't think it's fair to us as players to go out there and have to deal with that week in and week out. I really hope that they're as close as they say they are."
They were.

This was largely due to personal consumption, which was revised down.
We also learned that durable goods orders plunged 13 percent in August, which was much worse than the 5.0 percent decline expected.
Excluding transportation, orders fell 1.6 percent.? Economists were looking for a gain of 0.2 percent.
We reached out to ECRI's Lakshman Achuthan, who has been predicting a U.S. economic recession for around a year, despite harsh criticism.
And he only had one thing to say.
"As we recently noted, you'll need to watch the rear-view mirror to see the recession come into focus," he wrote in an email to Business Insider.

A lot of people we talk to are afraid to brand themselves, due to fear of getting fired from their current jobs?
I promised we?d revisit the topic of building your brand while maintaining a day job, so let?s get right to it!
The first thing worth mentioning, is that yes?it?s very possible to brand yourself while still working for someone else. If you have a positive outlook on everything, you?ll have a lot more energy and enthusiasm to work with, as well.
Tip #1 ? Blogging
If you?re running a blog, you don?t necessarily HAVE to put your name behind it.
This makes it easier to create the content you want, but also keep in mind that you?ll be better off if you avoid making comments that, if someone were to figure it out, could hurt your job.
Of course, that?s only if you?re bashing your job or giving away personal information (a bad idea in itself).
In most cases, what you?re talking about online and trying to offer will be completely unrelated to your full-time job.
Tip #2 ? Pen Names
The benefit of having a name behind your blog, is that it gives your readers an actual person to connect with.
If you agree and want to put some extra personality behind what you?re doing, you could always use a pen name.
Some people feel as though they?re being unethical by doing this, but it?s completely legal, common, and ethical. In fact, there are many famous authors that have used a pen name, for one reason or another.
Tip #3 ? Balancing Work And Branding/Business
Another common concern that comes up, is how to manage work AND branding.
To start with, are there any time wasters you could kick to buy yourself some more time?
If you have a favorite show you like to watch, giving it up while you build your business could easily give you an extra two and a half hours each week.
Block out distractions like Facebook and Youtube for part of the day.
You could also go to bed an hour later, or wake up an hour earlier.
You can use lists to plan your tasks out in advance, so when you find the time to work on your business?you?re a lot more productive.
Try using a timer to keep yourself focused?
Whatever tricks you use, the important thing is to prioritize your time!
Tip #4 ? ?Should I stay or should I go??
In a perfect world, you could wake up tomorrow and never go in to work for someone else again, and suddenly have all the time in the world to pursue your dreams.
Of course, it?s not always that easy, which is why you should consider the risk vs. all of your current responsibilities.
Doing what you want and love is great, but will it make you enough money (and soon enough) to cover your bills, family, and expenses?
Most people choose to use the full-time job to fund their goals part-time, until they get enough momentum and can take the leap out on their own.
With these tips in mind, do you think it?s possible to build your brand while working a full-time job?

This article is part of our series for London Social Media Week. Read all the posts in this series.
Instagram is a mobile photo editing and sharing app that saw its user base explode from 15 to 80 million since Facebook acquired the company back in April.
But even before the acquisition, many savvy brands had joined the platform?especially retail brands with stunning visual content. Clothing, media, and design-based brands were a natural fit for both the platform technology and Instagram?s early adopter user base.
However, unlike Facebook or Twitter, Instagram doesn?t have business-specific profiles, built-in visibility or engagement metrics, or paid advertising options.
So why are brands rushing to join yet another social network? Here?s why:
Instagram?s technology helps you easily create stunning images that you can easily use on your other social networks.
Both Facebook and Twitter have optimized how photos are displayed on these platforms and you can share directly from Instagram to those platforms (as well as to Tumblr, Foursquare, Flickr, and email) automatically or by individual selection.
Both the way the platform works (the technology) and the way most users approach the platform (the user experience) allows brands to employ visual storytelling that has more continuity and artistic value than other platforms.
With the absence of advertising (or even clickable links in captions or comments), business uses for an Instagram profile begin and end (for now) with awareness and branding. However, a few images that encapsulate a brand moment in a second or two is much more impactful than lines and lines of copy?no matter how brilliant the writing is.
Instagram combines two of the most powerful forces in the social technology market?mobile and photo sharing?to create a platform that truly offers a unique value proposition. Brands with an Instagram presence can take advantage of that intersection where users are focusing their attention.
1. Use images to tell a story, not blast your branding
If you sell a product or service, make sure the images you use are about the experience of using the product or service, and not a product placement ad.
Starbucks is an example of a big brand that does this well. Sure their photos show lots of Starbucks cups, but their photos also tell a story?the focus is always on what the person is doing while enjoying their coffee?on the beach, reading a book, etc.
There?s not a lot of tolerance for marketing that?s obviously marketing. Keep it subtle and keep the focus on your customers.
2. Most photos fall into two categories: beautiful imagery or humor
Make sure your Instagram photos fall into one of these categories. Most users aren?t posting all their random party pics to their Instagram stream and brands should exercise similar constraint. Photo albums in that vein are for Facebook. Think of your Instagram photos as high value/low volume.
3. Don?t post too often
A general rule, don?t post more than three photos in a row or one every three hours. If you post more often than that, you run the risk of hogging your users? feed.
Anecdotally, I?ve noticed that most users follow between 50 and 250 users. I think this is a sign of social media maturity?folks are learning from their experiences on Facebook and Twitter that following too many accounts is overwhelming.
Also, unlike Facebook, the commitment level to an account is low??unfollows? can happen frequently. Don?t automatically share your Instagram photos?editorially select and customize each?one for the appropriate platform.
And remember, you can use apps like PicFrame to include several snaps in one Instagram. Just be sure the images are related and the impact is magnified (rather than splintered) when you use a collage.
4. Choose an account name that?s the same as your Twitter handle
Having the same Instagram account name and Twitter handle serves two purposes. One?your profile will be easily recognizable and easy to find. And two?if you are tagged by another user in a caption and that photo is shared on Twitter, that tag will link to your Twitter profile. It ensures that tagging makes sense when an Instagram photo is shared on other networks.
5. Use hashtags, but don?t be creepy about it
Like on Twitter, hashtagging photos enables discovery of your profile by users outside of your primary connections. You can use the search functionality on the app to find out which hashtags are often used. Like on Twitter, hashtagging Instagram?photos?by event, geolocation, or subject matter is a good idea.
Other hashtags people tend to use on Instagram are filters and colors. Hashtags tend to be somewhat limited on Twitter due to the character length limitations. Because Instagram doesn?t have these limitations, this has encouraged some users and brands to stuff Instagram captions with every hashtag imaginable. Don?t do this?it looks like you?re trying too hard. Even worse, it makes you look like a spammer.
6. Set up an account on a web-based viewer
Instagram?s focus continues to be all about the mobile experience, but the app recently added the ability to view individual photos on the web through a shareable link. This feature allows your Instagram?stream?to not only be seen by those not using the app, but allows those who do have an account to like and comment on a shared photo right from the web. However, using a separate web-based viewer can help you manage your presence and track your progress.
Using Instagram?s API, these tools recreate your feed on a webpage, so you can view multiple photos at a time (without scrolling) on your computer. Most often you can make the same actions (liking, commenting, searching, tagging, etc.) on these web viewers that you can make on the mobile app. My favorite tool is Statigram?they even have a few basic metrics, comment notifications, and an Instagram campaign toolkit.
Bottom line: As the old adage goes?a picture is worth 1,000 words. It?s still true today, but with Instagram, a picture may also be worth 1,000 ?likes,? retweets,?and shares!
Is your business using Instagram? Tell us how you you?ve used it to help promote your business!

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) ? Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan says he acted "in the wrong way" when he was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct during the final confusing seconds of the team's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
The son of head coach Mike Shanahan issued a written statement Monday, promising that such conduct "will never happen again."
Shanahan was whistled for berating an official as the Redskins were attempting to drive for a tying touchdown in Sunday's 38-31 defeat. He says he was trying to call attention to the fact that the game wasn't over ? even though the Bengals coaching staff had starting walking on the field.
The officials mistakenly marked off 20 yards for the penalty instead of 15, forcing the Redskins into a third-and-50 for the game's final play.

Lowestoft Carnival parade 2012.
Picture: James Bass
Sunday, September 23, 2012
4:57 PM
There was a party atmosphere in Lowestoft this afternoon as a carnival parade snaked its way through the town in front of thousands of people.
The full traditional parade made a welcome return to the town after three years and despite the rain a large crowd gathered at Station Square and other roads as a procession of colourful floats, people in fancy dress and bands travelled from Kirkley Park Road to Katwijk Way.
Among the eye-catching and slightly bizarre participants were a car dressed as the Magic Roundabout?s Dougal, a witch on a mobility scooter, a mobile skip, a Grim Reaper and an army of super heroes, such as the Incredible Hulk and Catwoman.
There was also a strong sporting theme as Lowestoft?s bronze medal Olympic boxer Anthony Ogogo took part as well as 14 Olympic torchbearers from Suffolk and Norfolk and people dressed as sporting stars.
The parade, which had about 40 entries, also featured firefighters, the Waveney Allstars Cheerleaders, Lowestoft mayor Nick Webb, and Asda with trolleys full of balloons.
Today?s fun event was organised as a fund-raiser by the Friends of Lowestoft Hospital and people along the route generously dug into their pockets to help fill donation buckets,
Pat Rayner, carnival chairman, said; ?The organisers are full of praise for the resilience of the crowd. The weather was disappointing but the spirit of the carnival shone through.?
Mrs Rayner also praised the quality of the floats and the efforts of all the entrants.
In 2010 the carnival parade was shortened and last year?s one was cancelled.
There had been fears this year?s parade would have to be cancelled because of rising costs linked to road closures and changes to traffic management rules governing street events.
But thankfully for the people of the town, it was saved thanks to the intervention of the Gwen Baker Trust, Waveney District councillor Tod Sullivan and the Lowestoft Civic Society.
The annual Lowestoft Hospital fete will be held on Saturday and there will be a special carnival charity auction night on October 25 at the Hotel Victoria.

Proper timing is also important when it comes to shopping. Nearly every product and service has its own sales cycle, so the calendar can help you score the lowest price on anything from a kitchen renovation to clothes.
While there are no absolutes ? any retailer can discount their merchandise any time ? here?s a list of common purchases where proper timing may score a deal?
Air conditioners: Retailers look to clear out air conditioning units after summer ends, so expect the biggest savings in October.
Back-to-school gear: Backpacks and other back-to-school supplies are marked down during the first week in July and continue throughout September. Some laptop manufacturers roll out their back-to-school sales in August for shoppers with student IDs.
Bicycles: As cooler weather arrives in September, particularly on the East Coast, bikes are parked on the sales racks, with markdowns of up to 30 percent.
Boats: Prices on boats and personal watercraft tend to sink in March.
Cars: New Year?s Eve may be the best time to buy a new car. What?s driving these bargains? The calendar is just about to flip, which makes the current models sound dated. And after experiencing a lull around the holidays, dealers want to meet their annual sales quota to get a big year-end bonus.
Clothing: January marks the end of the winter clothing season, so expect to find coats, hats, scarves, and flannel pajamas up to 70 percent off.
Beachwear is typically marked down 20 to 25 percent in January and February ? and then again in July, when savings reach up to 70 percent. In fact, many summer wardrobe items are deeply discounted in July at 50 to 75 percent.
Spring promotions begin in March and continue throughout April, which is the perfect time to stock up on clothes if you wear a size that?s hard to find. In May, you?ll save even more on your spring wardrobe, but at the cost of a reduced selection.
Denim and other fall apparel items hit sales racks in September and are usually discounted more throughout October.
Cosmetics: Cosmetics and fragrances are typically marked down two weeks before Mother?s Day in May ? just when spa specials are also tempting shoppers.
Electronics: Black Friday in November is a bargain hunter?s paradise for deals on TVs, laptops, tablets, and other consumer electronics. But if you?re not willing to fight the crowds, look for deals on Cyber Monday. December is also a good time to buy a new TV.
Grills: Barbecue bargains start in April and heat up in May and June, leading up to Father?s Day. Since Memorial Day jump-starts grilling season, you?ll also see deals for soda, condiments, charcoal, and other barbecue-related supplies.
Halloween costumes: Another shopping trick: plan ahead for Halloween. Shop online for costumes in September to beat early October?s price hikes.
Homes: The best time to go house-shopping is when nobody else is ? typically right after the holidays when the weather is cold, the kids are in school, and everyone is tapped out.
Home furnishings: Memorial Day and Labor Day are the big weekends for deals on everything from mattresses and sofas to dining room sets.?Showroom models ? particularly appliances, furniture and lighting ? also hit their sales peak in December, as stores gear up for next year?s models. Homeowners looking for deals on patio furniture should hang tight until March.

Spain defeated South Africa in the qualifying stage of the 2013 World Baseball Classic, but it will not be able to get past Israel in its next game. Israel has yet to lose a game in the qualifiers at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Fla. Spain has rallied from a loss against the Israelis early in the tournament to find its way into the finals. In their most recent match, the Spanish routed South Africa 13-3, getting three RBIs from right fielder Yasser Gomez as he went 4-for-5 from the plate. The victory eliminated South Africa and improved Spain?s record to 2-1. Israel defeated South Africa in its opening game 7-3 behind two home runs from Nate Freiman . The 6?7? first baseman and San Diego Padres prospect continued to show incredible power when the Israelis took on Spain, blasting two more home runs to account for every run in his team?s 4-2 victory. That win pushed the Israelis into the finals while the Spanish had to defeat South Africa to earn a rematch. Now the teams will face each other for the second time in three days to determine which team will get a chance to play in the 2013 World Baseball Classic, and the result will be the same.? The Israelis have proven to be the best team in the group behind Freiman ?s bat, and the country?s first-ever team to compete in the tournament will win its qualifying group.? The team consists for three Israeli-born players and 25 Jewish Americans, according to Asher Zeiger of the Times of ...

ScienceDaily (Sep. 23, 2012) ? The most comprehensive analysis yet of breast cancer shows that one of the most deadly subtypes is genetically more similar to ovarian tumors than to other breast cancers.
The findings, published online Sept. 23 in Nature, suggest that most basal-like breast tumors and ovarian tumors have similar genetic origins and potentially could be treated with the same drugs, says the study's co-leader Matthew J. Ellis, MD, PhD, the Anheuser-Busch Chair in Medical Oncology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. The other co-leader is Charles M. Perou, PhD, at the University of North Carolina.
Basal-like tumors account for about 10 percent of all breast cancers and disproportionately affect younger women and those who are African-American.
The new research is part of The Cancer Genome Atlas project, which brings together leading genetic sequencing centers, including The Genome Institute at Washington University, to identify and catalog mutations involved in many common cancers. The effort is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
"With this study, we're one giant step closer to understanding the genetic origins of the four major subtypes of breast cancer," says Ellis, who treats breast cancer patients at the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University. "Now, we can investigate which drugs work best for patients based on the genetic profiles of their tumors. For basal-like breast tumors, it's clear they are genetically more similar to ovarian tumors than to other breast cancers. Whether they can be treated the same way is an intriguing possibility that needs to be explored."
Currently, for example, basal-like breast tumors often are treated like many other breast cancers, using anthracycline-based chemotherapy. But another of Ellis's studies recently showed that women with basal-like tumors don't benefit from these drugs, which also have severe side effects. At the very least, he says, the new data indicates that clinical trials should be designed to avoid the use of these drugs in basal-like tumors.
As part of the new research, a nationwide consortium of researchers analyzed tumors from 825 women with breast cancer. The scientists used six different technologies to examine subsets of the tumors for defects in DNA, RNA (a close chemical cousin of DNA) and proteins. Nearly 350 tumors were analyzed using all six technologies.
"By tying together those different data sets, we can build a story around the biology of each breast cancer subtype that is dictated by the genome, interpreted by the RNA and played out by the proteins at work inside each tumor," says co-author Elaine Mardis, PhD, co-director of The Genome Institute. "These data can serve as a backdrop for other questions about how particular mutations affect survival or response to certain drugs."
The study confirmed the existence of four main subtypes of breast cancer: Luminal A, luminal B, HER2 and basal-like. The latter includes most triple-negative breast tumors, so-named because they lack receptors for the hormones estrogen, progesterone or human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2). These tumors often are aggressive and do not respond to therapies that target hormone receptors or to standard chemotherapies.
Across the four subtypes, mutations in only three genes -- TP53, PIK3CA and GATA3 -- occurred in more than 10 percent of patients' tumors. But, the scientists found unique genetic and molecular signatures within each of the subtypes. Their findings add to the growing body of evidence suggesting that tumors should be cataloged and treated based on the genes that are disrupted rather than the location in the body.
In general, compared to the other subtypes, basal-like and HER2 tumors had the highest mutation rates but the shortest list of significantly mutated genes. These genes are thought to be major drivers of cancer progression. For example, 80 percent of basal-like tumors had mutations in the TP53 gene, which have been linked to poor outcomes. About 20 percent of the tumors also had inherited mutations in BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes, which are known to increase the risk of breast and ovarian cancer.
"This suggests that it only takes a few hits to key genes that drive cancer growth," Mardis explains.
A high frequency of TP53 mutations also occurs in ovarian cancer, the researchers noted. Overall, the genetic profiles of basal-like and ovarian tumors were strikingly similar, with widespread genomic instability and mutations occurring at similar frequencies and in similar genes.
Finding new drug targets for basal-like breast tumors is critical, and the research suggests that patients with mutations in the BRCA genes may benefit from PARP inhibitors or platinum-based chemotherapy, which are already used to treat ovarian cancer.
By comparison, luminal cancers (which include estrogen receptor-positive and progesterone-receptor positive tumors) had the lowest mutation frequencies and longer lists of significantly mutated genes. This suggests defects in multiple genetic pathways can lead to the development of luminal breast cancers.
Most patients with luminal A cancer have good outcomes, and the most common mutation in that subtype occurred in PIK3CA, which was present in 45 percent of tumors. TP53 mutations only occurred in 12 percent.
Some patients with luminal B tumors do well but many experience recurrence years after treatment. Interestingly, the most common mutations in these tumors occurred in TP53 (linked to poor outcomes) and PIK3CA (linked to good outcomes), which may explain the disparate results seen in patients with this subtype.
"Now, we're much closer to understanding the true origins of the different types of breast cancer," Ellis says. "With this information, physicians and scientists can look at their own samples to correlate patients' tumor profiles with treatment response and overall outcomes. That's the challenge for the future -- translating a patient's genetic profile into new treatment strategies."

CLEVELAND (AP) ? Sixteen men and women who rejected lenient plea deals are facing lengthy prison terms for their convictions in the hair- and beard-cutting attacks on fellow Amish in Ohio.
The trial focused on an internal Amish dispute and offered a rare and sometimes lurid glimpse into the closed and usually self-regulating community of believers.
The defendants, with about 50 children between them and including six couples, were convicted Thursday in U.S. District Court after 4? days of deliberations.
The defendants had rejected plea deals which offered leniency, with some likely to face only probation. With the convictions, some defendants could now get sentences of 20 years or more.
Members of the defense team said appeals were likely and would focus on whether the beard-cuttings amounted to religious-based hate crimes.
Judge Dan Aaron Polster scheduled sentencing for Jan. 24.
Prosecutors planned to file a request Friday to revoke bond and lock up defendants who had remained free pending trial. The judge asked the defense team to respond by Tuesday.
Rhonda Kotnik, representing Kathryn Miller, said the verdicts would destroy the Amish community of about 25 families.
"The community is going to be ripped apart. I don't know what's going to happen to all their children," she said.
Samuel Mullet Sr., 66, the leader of the breakaway group, was found guilty of orchestrating the cuttings last fall.
The government said the cuttings were an attempt to shame members of Mullet's community who he believed were straying from their beliefs. His followers were found guilty of carrying out the attacks, which terrorized the normally peaceful religious settlement that aims to live simply and piously.
Prosecutors and witnesses described how sons pulled their father out of bed and chopped off his beard in the moonlight and how women surrounded their mother-in-law and cut off two feet of her hair, taking it down to the scalp in some places.
Prosecutors say they targeted hair because it carries spiritual significance in their faith.
All the defendants are members of Mullet's settlement that he founded in eastern Ohio near the West Virginia panhandle. The Amish eschew many conveniences of modern life, including electrical appliances and automobiles, and embrace their centuries-old roots.
Federal officials said the verdicts would send a message about religious intolerance.
"The victims in this case are members of a peaceful and traditional religion who simply wanted to be left to practice their religion in peace," U.S. Attorney Steven Dettelbach said. "Unfortunately, the defendants denied them this basic right and they did so in the most violent way."
Members of the Amish community who sat through the trial hurried into a hired van without commenting, some covering their faces.
Defense attorneys said the defendants were bewildered by the verdicts.
"They really don't understand the court system the way the rest of us have, being educated and reading newspapers," said Joseph Dubyak, whose client, Linda Schrock, has 10 children with her husband, who was also convicted.
The suspects had argued that the Amish are bound by different rules guided by their religion and that the government had no place getting involved in what amounted to a family or church dispute.
Mullet wasn't accused of cutting anyone's hair. But prosecutors said he planned and encouraged his sons and the others, mocked the victims in jailhouse phone calls and was given a paper bag stuffed with the hair of one victim.
One bishop told jurors his chest-length beard was chopped to within 1? inches of his chin when four or five men dragged him out of his farmhouse in a late-night home invasion.
Prosecutors told jurors that Mullet thought he was above the law and free to discipline those who went against him based on his religious beliefs. Before his arrest last November, he defended what he believes is his right to punish people who break church laws.
"You have your laws on the road and the town ? if somebody doesn't obey them, you punish them. But I'm not allowed to punish the church people?" Mullet told The Associated Press last October.
The hair cuttings, he said, were a response to continuous criticism he'd received from other Amish religious leaders about him being too strict, including shunning people in his own group.
Defense attorneys acknowledged that the hair cuttings took place and that crimes were committed but contend that prosecutors were overreaching by calling them hate crimes.
Witnesses testified that Mullet had complete control over the settlement that he founded two decades ago and described how his religious teachings and methods of punishments deviated from Amish traditions.
One woman testified that Mullet coerced women at his settlement into having sex with him, and others said he encouraged men to sleep in chicken coops as punishment.

Salmon is a great staple to add to your?weeknight dinner rotation, and for good reason ? it?s low in calories and fat, high in protein, and off the charts with omega-3s. If a grill?s not available, baking is a great alternative. Baking the salmon at a high temperature helps to seal in the fish?s natural juices while keeping it tender.
Top your fish with a heaping spoonful of guilt-free, refreshing, and slightly tangy avocado-dill ?crema? (that?s just a fancy word for sauce). For a lighter version of this delicious, creamy topping, I use Greek yogurt instead of sour or heavy cream.
